Debbie Cohen, MS, BCBA
Who am I?
I am a mom to 4 big kids and a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) with 3 decades of clinical experience in the field of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). I love what I do! I love to analyze existing behavior and develop strategies and interventions that can facilitate behavior change. As a consultant, my main goal is to help you. I meet with stakeholders to offer professional advice on behavioral challenges until particular needs have been met. I am a problem-solver who will offer behavioral insights and help to put suggested strategies into place that fit your life.
What is my approach?
My approach is analytical and constructional. I recognize that each individual is unique and therefore I will conduct a thorough assessment in order for custom interventions to be developed. Assessments generally involve stakeholder interviews and observations of the individual for whom we want to help. When working with stakeholders, we will collaborate in order to ensure that everyone involved is in agreement and motivated to implement suggested strategies. Together, we will determine a goal, determine a starting point, develop positive skill steps to get to our goal, and once achieved, determine how we will maintain progress.
What is behind the name “Environmental Frameworks” ?
Behavior does not manifest in a vacuum. An individual influences and is influenced by his or her total environment. When analyzing behavior and determining potential strategies, the individual’s interactions with his physical environment and social environment need to be examined to determine why the individual is demonstrating particular behaviors. From there, the contingencies that are present in the environment, which are responsible for maintaining behavior, can be analyzed to provide information that can be used to create new, more desirable alternative behaviors.
